rimando selected 35th in 2000 mls superdraft miami fusion, , surprise of many, took starting position jeff cassar. started 22 games rookie, , 25 sophomore, helping fusion win 2001 mls supporters shield.

on december 11, 2006, rimando traded along freddy adu real salt lake. traded new york red bulls on february 9, traded real salt lake on february 23 following sudden retirement of latter team s first-choice keeper scott garlick.

rimando rsl s first-choice keeper during 2007 season. team struggled , never contended playoff berth, rimando led mls 146 saves in 27 games, including efforts against new england (13 saves in 0-0 draw on june 2) , toronto fc (12 saves in 0-0 draw on september 15). hard work rewarded @ end of season when named real salt lake s 2007 valuable player.

rimando continued salt lake s first-choice keeper in 2008 , 2009. emerged 1 of top keepers in league, evidenced mls player of month award in july 2008. strong performance between pipes, combined team s much-improved defensive play, carried team western conference final in 2008 , further in 2009. in eastern conference final against chicago fire, rsl battled scoreless draw after 120 minutes. rimando made several saves in regulation , overtime, added 3 huge saves on penalty kicks, lifting team 5-4 shootout victory. in mls cup championship match, rimando again found himself facing shootout, , again delivered. made 3 saves, leading rsl victory on los angeles galaxy. efforts, named mls cup mvp, second goalkeeper earn honor (tony meola accomplished feat in 2000).

although backup tim howard, rimando played united states @ 1999 world youth championship in nigeria. earned first cap senior team on november 17, 2002 against el salvador. after that, did not receive attention national team until outstanding play in mls in 2009 caught attention of u.s. coach bob bradley. rimando invited train senior team in 2010 in preparation world cup, although not selected tournament. has made international appearances since then, including standout performance in friendly against panama on january 25, 2012. has consistently been third-choice keeper under current manager jurgen klinsmann, , first-choice keeper @ 2013 concacaf gold cup
