method of tae eul ju meditation

whenever jeung san practitioners tae eul ju meditation, there 3 steps before meditation, offering, bowing , prayer. after above 3 steps, start meditate. during meditation, body should relaxed posture , set focal point , breathe lower abdomen.


offering, bowing, , prayer

to optimal spiritual experience meditation, prepare bowl of water , perform 4 bows , prayer. bowl of water symbolizes purification of body, mind, , spirit , offering of life essence (jeong : 精) spirits. sangjenim taught when meditate should direct our gaze upon bowl of water our inner eyes open , outer eyes closed. bowing show respect sangjenim, taemonim, , other spirits unite our human virtue virtue of heaven , earth. doing personal prayer before meditation, can reflect upon , ask forgiveness shortcomings , express intentions heaven , earth. personal prayer time of self-reflection , clearing mind.


body posture

it not have lotus posture , relaxing posture important. kneeling or sitting cross-legged, keep straight (most important), chin tucked in, , shoulders back. if legs tired, change kneeling sitting position or vice versa, try keep straight while doing so. spine main channel flow of qi within body, , conduit receiving qi of heaven , earth. if crooked, qi not flow well. also, because body , mind one, there direct relationship between mental , physical posture. if find mind wandering during meditation, check posture. when not straight, mind tends lose focus.


focal point

different schools of meditation advocate various focal points. in jeung san recommended direct consciousness inward toward lower danjeon (dantien), central energy point located below navel. while doing imagine sound of mantra permeating entire body.


breathing

breathe lower abdomen. exhale, lower abdomen goes in; inhale lower abdomen goes out. breathing technique same throughout different meditations few exceptions. important in natural way, not tensing or forcing stomach muscles. before long, feel stress-related tension in chest fall away fire energy descends , water energy rises. process called suseunghwagang (水昇火降).


chanting

when meditate?

anytime time meditate, best times meditation in morning , late evening. in morning, receive activating yang energy of new day, , in evening, receive yin energy allows perfect rest. carry peacefulness , energy of meditation in entire day, continuously chant in mind while doing of daily activities. while walking, driving, eating, relaxing, etc.
