the lak-17 designed meet requirements of utility category of jar-22. single-seat mid-wing sailplane of composite construction t-tail , flaps, has retractable single-wheel main landing gear , has airbrakes on upper wing surface. airfoil combination of lap92-130/15, @ roots, , lap-92-150/15, @ tips. lak-17 holds water ballast in tanks in wing , fin. lak-17a certified in november 1994 lithuanian civil aviation authority. new variant improved wing designated lak-17b. variants have 15.00 m (49.21 ft) wingspan wing span increased 18.00 m (59.06 ft) available option; powered self-sustaining versions produced.
an optional front electric sustainer engine variant developed lak-17 slovenian engineers @ lz design. had 0.9 metre propeller, , latest versions have 1.0 metre propeller in nose driven electric motor.
