michael bishop spearheaded late fourth quarter comeback, giving toronto argonauts 31-27 win on winnipeg blue bombers in east division semifinal game @ rogers centre.

bishop completed touchdown passes arland bruce , r. jay soward in final 8 minutes, turning 27-17 deficit chance play montreal alouettes in east final.

bishop came in ineffective damon allen. bishop finished 3-of-5 110 yards. allen went 15-of-28 219 yard td , interception. toronto head coach mike pinball clemons made change under center catch winnipeg off guard , worked.

charles roberts had 2 touchdown runs blue bombers, failed hold on 10-point fourth-quarter lead. ended 30 rushed 179 yards. after winnipeg went 27-17 on kevin glenn s 27-yard td pass chris brazzell, argonauts began comeback.

first, bruce hauled in 78-yard catch-and-run bishop, making 27-24 contest. then, little later, bishop hit soward 15-yard score give argonauts win. winnipeg had 1 last chance, orlando steinauer picked off glenn inside final minute @ toronto 22. glenn ended 12-of-22 224 yards td , 2 picks.

toronto led 6-3 after 1 quarter. argo s noel prefontaine hit 37- , 28-yard field goals after troy westwood opened scoring 42-yarder winnipeg. prefontaine made 7-3 game in second 25-yard single, westwood answered 23-yard field goal. allen hit michael palmer 23-yard td strike make 14-6 heading halftime.

winnipeg scored 14 third-quarter points one-yard , 11-yard td runs roberts. toronto though drew within 20-17 on prefontaine 38-yard field goal in fourth quarter.

west semi-final

kenton keith s 14-yard touchdown run 2:20 remaining cemented second-half comeback, saskatchewan roughriders pulled out gritty 30-21 win on calgary stampeders in western division semifinal @ chilly mcmahon stadium.

kerry joseph threw 180 yards on 17-of-31 completions , 1 touchdown, , keith finished day 141 yards on 16 carries , 2 scores. defensive back, james johnson recorded 2 interceptions roughriders, ran off 25 unanswered points, 18 coming in second-half. riders advanced west championship take on bc lions @ bc place stadium.

henry burris completed 16-of-32 passes 198 yards, no touchdowns, , picked off 4 times , fumbled once. did run calgary s offensive touchdown in game. marcus howell took punt 57 yards touchdown stampeders, hurt cause committing 6 turnovers. trailing 9 points little more 2 minutes left, calgary not score on either of last 2 possessions. on first chance, kicker sandro deangelis pushed 40-yard field goal attempt wide right. final charge saw burris throw 2 balls end zone batted down defenders, , third-down attempt picked off end game.

calgary led after 1 quarter, 4-3, on deangelis 39-yard kick , single. things picked in second, riders went ahead, 5-4, on safety concession. stampeders regained lead, 11-5, when howell electrified home crowd punt return touchdown. lead boosted 14-5 on successful 25-yard deangelis field goal attempt. calgary increased margin 21-5 when burris sneaked on goal line amidst mass of bodies 2 yards out, riders closed out first half strongly. joseph led charge own 35-yard line , hooked matt dominguez 22-yard strike, capping eight-play, 75-yard drive closed gap 21-12 @ break.

the riders came out blazing in second half. after taking opening kickoff own 34, keith found seam middle on first play scrimmage , bolted 76 yards score, cutting calgary lead 2 @ 21-19. lead trimmed closer 21-20 when howell decided run out of of end zone rather fielding luca congi punt, granting saskatchewan valuable point. when congi split uprights 41 yards out 10:26 left in fourth, riders had first lead since second quarter. 3 points set when eddie davis intercepted burris pass gave saskatchewan ball in calgary territory.

joseph , roughriders put nail in stampeders coffin. four-play, 66-yard drive highlighted corey grant s 37-yard reception down calgary 25. 2 plays later, keith s run provided insurance victory.

robert edwards rushed 137 yards , touchdown montreal advanced grey cup 33-24 victory on toronto argonauts in east division final. alouettes face bc lions cfl championship.

anthony calvillo completed 14-of-22 passes 252 yards touchdown , interception montreal (11-8), own 4-1 record against argonauts in last 5 east finals. bishop replaced ineffective damon allen in second half , rallied toronto victory. former heisman trophy finalist kansas state university completed 17-of-24 passes 159 yards 2 touchdowns , pick argonauts (11-9).

in last cfl action, ricky williams ran 9 times 57 yards , touchdown, while catching 3 passes 34 yards. williams signed toronto after violated nfl s substance abuse policy fourth time, resulting in one-year suspension league.

trailing 30-10 in fourth quarter, bishop orchestrated 2 late scoring drives pull toronto within six. bishop first hooked michael palmer 11-yard touchdown made 30-17 games. pass-interference call in end zone later in fourth gave argonauts first down on one-yard , williams dove across goal line cut toronto s deficit six, 30-24. however, damon duval nailed 44-yard field goal ice game , send montreal grey cup.

the alouettes drew first blood on duval s 37-yard boot in first quarter, toronto answered noel prefonatine s 22-yard kick. montreal outscored toronto 13-0 in second quarter take 16-3 lead break. duval connected on 41-yard kick before edwards td run 4 yards out. duval s 22-yard field goal 2 seconds left in first half gave alouettes 13-point lead.

toronto appeared build momentum start second half, bashir levingston returned kickoff 50 yards deep montreal territory. however, on argonauts first play scrimmage, mark estelle stepped in front of allen pass , ran 78-yards @ touchdown.

bishop took on allen on toronto s next possession , found arland bruce 23-yard touchdown reception made 23-10. argonauts got ball chance build off momentum bruce s td, overturned call on williams fumble changed complexion of game. williams ruled down on run, montreal challenged call , ruling reversed.

on next play, calvillo hooked thyron anderson 57-yard touchdown made 30-10 game.

west final

dave dickenson completed 27-of-37 passes 274 yards , 3 touchdowns, bc lions destroyed saskatchewan roughriders, 45-18, score franchise playoff-record points total , reach grey cup against montreal. lions play montreal alouettes, beat toronto argonauts 33-24 in east final. bc, finished first in west division third straight season, lost 2004 grey cup toronto , downed edmonton in 2005 west final.

joe smith rushed 116 yards on 19 carries lions, finished first in west division league s best record @ 13-5. paris jackson caught 2 touchdowns 66 receiving yards , jason clermont had 98 receiving yards on 9 catches.

kerry joseph completed 15-of-23 passes 210 yards 1 interception , 1 touchdown roughriders (9-9), qualified division final upsetting calgary, 30-21. kenton keith scored pair of third-quarter touchdowns.

bc got going on 21-yard field goal paul mccallum 11:40 remaining in first. saskatchewan answered on 40-yarder luca congi 2:39 go 3-3 first quarter score. bc blew game open 26-point second quarter. dickenson hooked jackson on 14-yard touchdown pass 11:55 left in second. congi conceded safety 10:20 go 12-3 bc lead. 5 minutes later, dickenson found smith five-yard touchdown pass. mccallum kicked 20-yard field goal 1:26 remaining, , lions mustered score when dickenson threw 35-yard touchdown pass jackson 21 seconds on clock.

saskatchewan got point congi converted 22-yard single time expired 29-4 advantage. mccallum kicked 37-yard field goal 9:38 go in third before roughriders got going. first, joseph hooked keith on 38-yard touchdown pass little on 2 minutes go. then, after geroy simon fumbled, keith kept ball on ground next four-yard rushing touchdown time expired 32-18 saskatchewan deficit.

the lions put game away in fourth. mccallum kicked pair of field goals of 18 yards , 41 yards, respectively. smith scored six-yard rushing touchdown 2:30 remaining final margin.
