written andrew smith, scene breakdown had been commissioned on 10 january 1984. two-part story have involved mary celeste. turned down due fact sontarans appear in 2 doctors. later adapted smith big finish part of lost stories series in july 2012.

the guardians of prophecy

written johnny byrne, plot outline story, known place of serenity, submitted production office byrne in july 1983. two-part story have seen doctor visit planet serenity, part of same union traken belonged to. rulers of serenity assisted computer known prophecy , villains of piece, auga , mura, attempting overthrow rulers. later adapted jonathan morris big finish part of lost stories series in may 2012.

written david banks, story involved sixth doctor , peri encountering master in ancient crete, contingent of cybermen. david banks, had played cyber leader in 3 serials in 1980s, submitted storyline around time ‘attack of cybermen’ entered production in 1984. script editor eric saward liked idea, felt prove expensive film.

doomwraiths

written philip martin, story submitted on 28 december 1983 , dealt alien race returning earth discover humanity experiment has failed. story involved tardis alerting doctor fact regeneration in progress nearby, suggesting presence of fellow timelord. doctor instead find elite of doomwraiths emerging, reconstituted, shimmering metal columns many moving strips , deadly purpose. wraiths find human evolution has failed, , mankind has not taken on form; release plague destroy humanity, relocate missing section of genetic code , repopulate earth themselves. doctor , peri discover doomwraiths have genetic flaw gives them impulse destroy. doctor manages destroy discovered code block, says doomwraiths may have left legacy on other worlds. on 9 march 1984, saward noted story idea need further development before assess commissioning.

after decision taken cancel stories commissioned season 23, new stories sought shortened 14 episode series. plan 3 production blocks, divided 2 four-episode lots , 1 block of 6 episodes. robert holmes assigned opening four-part story , philip martin second four-part story. final 6 episodes broken 3 two-part stories.

attack mind

writer david halliwell approached eric saward in july 1985 prospective writer new series 23. halliwell submitted untitled first draft of untitled two-part story episodes 9 & 10 production office in late july 1985. story dealt conflict between ugly looking freds , beautiful penelopeans. work on second draft began on 14 august 1985 , completed 22 august 1985, third draft submitted on 11 september 1985. saward spent time halliwell on further drafts, changing name of freds trikes. fourth revision delivered on 26 september 1985 , 7 october 1985 saw fifth draft arrive @ production office. halliwell received letter saward on 18 october 1985, advising him attack mind had been cancelled.

the second coming

jack trevor story invited same series briefing halliwell, , two-part story episodes 11 & 12 meant share sets attack mind being linked narratively. plot centred on man playing saxophone inside empty gasometer.

with dismissal of halliwell , story s scripts, saward looked replace them single four-part adventure.

pinacotheca

written christopher h. bidmead, story commissioned on 29 october 1985 last adventure, replaced scripts david halliwell , jack trevor story episodes 9 - 12 second draft scripts of 4 episodes delivered 9 january 1986. story dropped on 7 february 1986.

paradise five

written p.j. hammond, story commissioned end of term on 10 february 1986 replacement pinacotheca episodes 9 - 12. involved doctor investigating resort of paradise five, while mel goes undercover hostess. when script failed, replaced in turn pip & jane baker s terror of vervoids. later adapted paradise 5 andy lane big finish part of lost stories series in march 2010.

time inc

time inc title concluding two-part story-arc have been written robert holmes episodes 13 & 14 when commissioned on 4 february 1986. however, holmes unable work on script past first part due untimely death on 24 may 1986. script editor eric saward tasked completing story, version of script ending doctor , valeyard locked in battle in time vortex , no clear victor. disapproved series producer john nathan-turner being down-beat , end show on inconclusive moment should bbc decide cancel series. final episode subsequently commissioned pip & jane baker nathan-turner after saward quit script editor following rejection of proposed ending.
