the southwestern limit of city of lisbon, belém delimited tagus estuary south, margins of algés river , ic17-cril highway, west, until northern limit of a5 highway). in addition, alcântara river , former eastern limits of parish of são francisco xavier, until estrada de queluz (road of queluz) reaches a5 highway.


it bordered parishes of alcântara in east, ajuda in northeast, , benfica in north; , west municipality of oeiras (algés).


in addition historical buildings , avenues, belém location of jardim ultramar (english: overseas garden), several blocks of green-spaces includes gardens of praça império (english: imperial garden), jardim vasco de gama (english: vasco de gama garden), afonso de albuquerque square , jardim agricola tropical (english: tropical garden museum). these gardens cover large portion of waterfront area, encircling buildings of rua de belém, , backs onto gardens of palace of belém. in belém s located extreme southwest section of monsanto forest park.
