series 1 (2004)

in spring 2004, strictly come dancing commenced first series. professional dancers were: brendan, hanna, anton, erin, john, paul, camilla , kylie. series took place in spring/summer months. second series onwards, show takes place september/october december each year. natasha kaplinsky & brendan cole crowned first winners of strictly come dancing. shortest series, 8 weeks.

series 2 (2004)

in autumn 2004, second series commenced. 5 of 8 professionals returned. these professionals were: brendan, anton, erin, paul , camilla. there 5 new professionals are: darren, ian, lilia, nicole , hazel. hazel participated in series while other professionals competed in following series.

a new spin-off show called strictly come dancing: takes 2 presented claudia winkleman created series , has continued air alongside each following series, hosted zoë ball on bbc two.

series 3 (2005)

in 2005, third series commenced. brendan, anton, erin, camilla, darren, ian , lilia returned last series. nicole, paul , hazel did not return. replaced karen, hanna, izabela, andrew , matthew.

series 4 (2006)

the show ran 7 october 23 december 2006. on 12 million votes cast, raising £1.5 million children in need. peak of 13 million viewers tuned final show of series 4 see mark , karen crowned 2006 strictly come dancing champions.

this series introduced 4 new professional dancers – flavia cacace, james jordan, ola jordan , vincent simone. andrew cuerden, hanna haarala , izabela hannah did not return series. series saw return of nicole cutler, had taken part in series 2 not in series 3.

series 5 (2007)

the fifth series of strictly come dancing began on bbc 1 on 29 september 2007, bruce forsyth , tess daly returning presenters. first , time, line of professionals unchanged previous series. first programme catch-up show , preview new series, before start of competition on 6 october, ran 12 weeks.

the show featured 14 new celebrities, paired 14 professional dancers. in change previous format, results show recorded on saturday , broadcast on sunday, rather shown live later on saturday. in addition this, 2 couples @ bottom of table after viewers vote subject dance-off, reprised routine, judges decide left. head judge len goodman had casting vote in case of tie. series raised on million pounds children in need.

series 6 (2008)

a sixth series of show confirmed after dancers pay dispute called off in late june 2008. series lasted 14 weeks, longest series far. series involved 3 new professional dancers, brian fortuna, hayley holt , kristina rihanoff. nicole cutler did not return series.

in july 2008 reported current eastenders cast members banned taking part in competition due length of series.

the sixth series began on 13 september behind-the-scenes @ new series, followed first live show on 20 september.

on 19 november 2008, john sergeant announced leaving show because believed may win .

series 7 (2009)

the seventh series of strictly come dancing ran 18 september until 19 december 2009. tess daly signed two-year deal continue presenting programme @ least 2009 , 2010 series .

on 9 july 2009, former competitor alesha dixon confirmed joining judging panel series, , darcey bussell guest judge towards end of series run. dixon replaced arlene phillips moved 1 show strictly come dancing expert. has been reported in media many of show s professional dancers furious @ phillips being replaced dixon. apparently feel judged knows less dancing . bbc accused of sexism, none of male judges on show had been replaced. bbc received on 5,000 complaints. dixon s fans unhappy had cancel number of dates on autumn tour programme.

the eighth series of strictly come dancing began launch show on 11 september 2010, 3 weeks later live shows started on 1 october 2010. 3 new professional dancers announced, celebrities revealed on 8 september 2010 , professional partners revealed during launch show.

series 9 (2011)

strictly returned launch show on 10 september 2011, final in december @ tower ballroom, blackpool. bruce forsyth , tess daly returned front main show, , claudia winkleman presented sunday night results show along daly.

for strictly come dancing: takes two, new presenter joined team. winkleman had pull out of 2011 series difficult daily programme after giving birth , replaced zoë ball.

the professional line-up announced on 15 june 2011 of series 8 professionals returning, except jared murillo replaced siberian dancer pasha kovalev. celebrity line-up announced on 6 september 2011 on 1 show , couples paired first time on launch show.

series 10 (2012)

the tenth series began on 15 september 2012 launch show reveal celebrity/professional partnerships, , live shows began on 5 october.

on 25 april 2012, confirmed darcey bussell joining judging panel, replacing alesha dixon left show judge on britain s got talent.

katya virshilas professional dancer not returning series, , replaced burn floor s karen hauer. full line-up revealed on 10 september during 1 show.

aliona vilani johnny ball s partner, injury resulted in being replaced iveta lukosiute.

series 11 (2013)

strictly come dancing returned launch show on 7 september 2013 , live shows on 27 september 2013 eleventh series. rod stewart , jessie j performed on premiere show.

on 1 june 2013, announced aliona vilani, vincent simone, flavia cacace, , erin boag leave series. aljaž skorjanec, emma slater, janette manrara , iveta lukosiute, partnered johnny ball in first few weeks of series 10, join cast. however, confirmed on 22 august 2013 anya garnis , kevin clifton joined series, replacing slater. on 2 september 2013, announced foot fracture injury meant natalie lowe not able participate series, , replaced returning professional vilani.

series 12 (2014)

the series started on 7 september 2014 launch show, followed live shows starting on 26 , 27 september. series first not presented sir bruce forsyth after announcing departure live shows on 4 april (he made final regular appearance in series launch show). however, forsyth continue present special editions of show, such children in need , christmas specials. announced on 9 may claudia winkleman join main show co-presenter , duties mirror existing result show format, tess daly taking on forsyth s role main presenter , winkleman taking daly s role co-presenter.

it announced on 1 june 2014 professional dancers artem chigvintsev, james jordan , anya garnis not returning new series, although garnis remain on show s choreography team. announced tristan macmanus , joanne clifton joining show s professional line-up. announced in august robin windsor had pulled out of competition due injury. windsor replaced new professional trent whiddon. in third week entertainer donny osmond joined 4 regular judges, making maximum score week 50 points. due winkleman s absence in weeks 6, 7, , 8, takes 2 presenter zoë ball co-presented daly.

strictly come dancing returned thirteenth series launch show on 5 september 2015, followed live shows starting on 25 , 26 september.

on 23 april 2015, list of professionals participating in thirteenth series revealed. professionals last series did not return included trent whiddon, iveta lukosiute , joanne clifton. clifton remain involved in group dances , feature on strictly come dancing: takes 2 dance expert. robin windsor, absent previous series because of injury, did not return series. 3 new professional dancers introduced: russian dancer gleb savchenko (from american, australian, , russian versions of dancing stars), south african dancer oti mabuse (from germany s let s dance) , italian dancer giovanni pernice.

on 28 june 2016, list of professionals returning fourteenth series revealed. professionals last series not return included last series champion , two-time professional winner of show aliona vilani, former professional winner ola jordan, , two-times professional finalist kristina rihanoff gleb savchenko , tristan macmanus. joanne clifton returning after 1 series hiatus. leaving professionals replaced katya jones, burn floor dancer gorka márquez , former dancing stars u.s. troupe member oksana platero. on 26 july 2016, 3 more new professional dancers announced aj pritchard, chloe hewitt , neil jones, husband of new dancer katya. chloe hewitt , neil jones did not partner celebrity professionals outnumbered celebrities, although still in group dances , appeared on takes two.

series 15 (2017)

on may 4, 2017, series 7 finalist, natalie lowe announced departing show. 5 days later, shirley ballas announced replacing len goodman head judge. on june 21, 2017, previous series professional champion, joanne clifton, oksana platero announced leaving. new professionals replacing them australian open champion, dianne buswell, welsh dancer, amy dowden, , ukrainian two-time world champion, nadiya bychkova. on 7 august, nick grimshaw announced mollie king first celebrity taking part series. first series broadcast since sir bruce forsyth s death in august year.
