around 1617/18 in netherlands , appointed member of council of indies. served admiral of dutch defense fleet. janszoon awarded gold chain worth 1,000 guilders in 1619 part in capturing 4 ships of british east india company near tiku on west sumatra, had aided javanese in defense of town of jakarta against dutch. in 1620 1 of negotiators english. in combined fleet sailed manila prevent chinese merchants dealing spanish. janszoon became vice-admiral, , year later admiral. near end of life, janszoon served governor of banda (1623–27). returned batavia in june 1627 , afterwards, admiral of fleet of 8 vessels, went on diplomatic mission india. on 4 december 1628, sailed holland , on 16 july 1629, reported on state of indies @ hague. sixty years old , ready retire strenuous , successful career in service of country. nothing known of last days, thought have died in 1630.
