during world war hispano-suiza aircraft engines made military versions of type u car. peace, production of six-cylinder, called model uu, resumed in 1920 brand new 2,648 cc (161.6 cu in) four, 12cv, added. far commercial vehicles made. following death of ernest chenard in 1922, son lucien chenard (1896–1971) took over.


the 3-litre car of 1922, designed henri toutée (1884–1943) had been company since 1906, overhead camshaft engine winner of first le mans 24 hours race, in 1923 driven rené léonard , andré lagache, both engineers employed chenard et walcker. 2-litre version, 10/12 subsequently sold public.

in 1925 chenard et walcker fourth largest car maker in france. in 1927 company entered tripartite consortium (collaboration) delahaye , rosengart, sharing designs , components. unic offered place in consortium declined offer. entente advertised in 1929 slogan l union fait la force arrangement lasted 4 years, until 1931, when chenard et walcker broke other partners. in letter dated 13 june 1930 delahaye, company s president stated seemed quite impossible continue collaboration working, , collaboration formally dissolved @ end of september 1931, fifteen intervening months having been used partners configure separate model ranges, although run-out models period of collaboration continued appear after 1931.


front independent suspension introduced on 1934 models , front-wheel drive using grégoire designs on super aigle models not great success launched @ same time citroën traction avant considerably more expensive. in same year aigle 8 v-8 engine launched.
