the exies formed in 1997 when singer , guitarist scott stevens drafted bassist freddy herrera , drummer thom sullivan form new group. stevens friend chris skane played guitar in incarnation of exies, left citing other priorities. skane replaced guitarist david walsh.

the exies continued touring in 2003 in support of inertia, goddess being performed on late show david letterman , peaking @ no. 12 on modern rock chart. video goddess , filmed diane martel, became top 10 hit on mtv2.

after returning tour mötley crüe, virgin decided release exies contract. after this, dennis wolfe , david walsh left band pursue other goals. left stevens , herrera alone, , decided reunite former guitarist chris skane , began writing songs. on 26 may 2006, band announced on blog returning studio producer james michael work on fourth album. album, modern way of living truth, released 15 may 2007 eleven 7 music, band s new label.
to promote album band toured buckcherry, papa roach, , hinder. followed tour rock band smile empty soul throughout summer of 2007. after shows, toured drowning pool soldiers tour. band released 5 songs on myspace , radio modern way of living truth: different , once in lifetime , these days , sound , , fear of being alone . on june 28, exies released music video song god (going down in flames) , song left off album.
in 2008, exies re-released modern way of living truth on itunes 5 tracks. god (going down in flames) included along acoustic versions of goddess , ugly , genius , , tired of . song lay money down featured in video game, wwe smackdown! vs. raw 2009.
in 2008, internet rumors circulated scott stevens suffering drug addiction. stevens denied drug abuse hearsay, , joked rumors during press interviews. in june, exies completed cage-rattle wanted tour nu-metal band, nonpoint. in october year, began tour trustcompany.
