the deconsumptionists 2005-present, eidia, exhibition, sydney college of arts 2011
continuing work in video, eidia went on make award-winning documentary nea tapes (1995–2001), threatened dismantling of national endowment arts. piece held in library collections of on 200 universities, colleges , art institutes. based on nea tapes archive, lamarre , wolf interviewed on 300 artists, curators, art professionals, politicians , religious persons on views on status of american art in late 1990s. nea tapes had distinction of being screened in capitol building, washington dc, under auspices of office of representative jerrold nadler.
eidia’s performance/installation deconsumption (2001 2007) modeled on idea of more production of less . performed sale of numerous found objects (reclaimed eidia “art”) purchased thousands of visitors eidia house. piece, production of artistic matter shifted creating works using new materials re-introducing, re-considering, re-shaping , recycling pre-existing items (remarkably, before “green” era ever began). deconsumption has been renamed , reformulated since 9/11, becoming deconsumption & deconsumptionists. roaming installation consists of 48-foot semi-trailer serves platform eidia’s current dialogue , aesthetic research. trailer houses 171 boxes contain, among other things, thirty years worth of collective works, ephemera, , correspondence. trailer shown first time @ sydney college of arts in australia in 2011. (an earlier version presented in new mexico @ santa fe art institute in 2006.)
eidia s current curatorial project plato s cave (2009 2015) based on plato s allegory of cave, , inspired art & project. invited artists create in situ installations , limited edition through eidia house studio.
