dfb, 5 regional , 21 state associations


post-second world war germany saw hesse become part of occupation zone. travel within occupation zone restricted, reestablishing of southern german federation seemed impossible.


in september 1945, regional football league established, oberliga süd, made of 16 of foremost football clubs of southern germany. organisers of competition had received permission reestablish sfv authorities. below oberliga, not yet officially reestablished sfv degreed landesligas established each of states. on 4 november 1945, new oberliga played first round.


to alleviate friction between southern german , state association, state associations became member of sfv football clubs remained members of state associations only, not sfv. sfv had responsibility organise oberliga , new 2nd oberliga, other leagues part of state associations.


the hfv not officially formed until 17 june 1952. prior that, since february 1946, football in state organised football department of state sports federation. 1948, department became known hessischer fußball-verband, full independence not achieved until 1952.
