history

hope week started in 2009. yankees said event unique in every player on roster, along manager joe girardi, participate.


2009

in 2009, program, ran july 20–24, honored united states army veteran of 82nd airborne division lost use of arms , legs lou gehrig s disease (als). veteran , wife , son invited watch batting practice field before game. surprised party in suite in yankee stadium several players , friends , family.


several yankees surprised 2 men overcame learning , developmental diseases @ place of work @ law firm in new york, mail room employees. other yankees visited sixth-grade little leaguer has cerebral palsy helps coach team. after july 24th game, yankees hosted nighttime carnival people camp sundown, suffer xeroderma pigmentosum, rare disease in body cannot repair cells damaged uv light; sufferers have avoid exposure sunlight. kids arrived @ game after sundown, because of rain delay, game had not started, saw game , did event yankees until sunrise.


2010

the 2010 program ran august 16–20. manager joe girardi visited jane lang, blind woman attends 30 yankees game season, @ home , invited meet players @ evening s game. man sierra leone, has provided family since eight, immigrated u.s., , received scholarship go college threw out ceremonial first pitch before game, while 13-year-old quadruple amputee thrown pool party several yankees.


2011

in 2011, yankees held barbecue children tuesday s children, organization supports children lost parents on september 11th. several yankees (including derek jeter, jorge posada, , cc sabathia) took survivors of 2010 haiti earthquake on tour of new york city , met archbishop timothy dolan. other yankees went broadway performance 27-year-old survived 5 brain aneurysms.
