written christopher priest, opportunity write four-part story offered priest after previous script, sealed orders, had been cancelled. scene breakdown commissioned on 5 december 1980 , scripts on 6 february 1981. priest s story idea dealt secret of powered tardis, in case fear. somewhere hidden inside tardis 1 being doctor feared above others, , psychic tension between 2 of them produced energy move through space , time. story involved doctor having confront , defeat fear, , designed write out character of adric. after hearing nothing production office regard completed scripts or payment them, priest made contact john nathan-turner. told scripts unusable , not paid. after bitter dispute priest paid , both nathan-turner , eric saward forced pen letter of apology on treatment of writer. script replaced saward s script earthshock.

genesis of cybermen

written gerry davis, four-part story submitted on spec production office around february 1982. concerned doctor arriving on mondas @ point in time when cybermen being created. rough storyline doctor , companion “felicity” arrive on planet mondas, earth s twin orbiting on opposite side of sun. while doctor works on piece of tardis equipment, felicity encounters gentle prince sylvan. sylvan accidentally activates tardis, sending him, doctor , felicity fifty years future. there, sylvan s brother, dega, king , has used doctor s device begin turning people cybermen. has constructed space fleet intends invade mineral-rich earth, , plans kill unconverted mondans cyanide gas. felicity appeals dega s partly cybernised wife, queen meta, , shoots husband dead—only killed dega s chief of staff, krail. in confusion, sylvan , band of mondan rebels flee in spaceships earth; massive concussion of take-off knocks mondas out of orbit deep space. former script editor davis submitted idea circa 1981, intending prequel , kit pedler s original cyberman serial, tenth planet (which featured cyberman krail). borrowed elements ark , savages, 2 stories davis had been story editor on. producer john nathan-turner , script editor antony root not interested in genesis of cybermen. davis wrote storyline doctor , 1 female companion in mind; called character “felicity” rather writing particular companion in mind. idea later explored in big finish audio adventure spare parts marc platt , released in july 2002. in turn spare parts heavily borrowed television episodes rise of cybermen , age of steel in 2006.

the fifth doctor s first story intended four-part project zeta sigma, written john flanagan & andrew mcculloch. not intended follow on directly events of logopolis; instead, doctor , companions have left earth. story concern nuclear disarmament. commissioned project 4g on 7 october 1980, script proved unworkable, , producer john nathan-turner dropped story on 19 february 1981. commissioned departed script editor christopher h. bidmead write replacement became castrovalva. last minute change disrupted shooting schedule, meaning castrovalva fourth serial of series filmed, though first transmitted.

written robert holmes, story planned 20th anniversary special. 90-minute single-part story commissioned on 2 august 1982 , involve various doctors , companions drawn planet maladoom trapped master working cybermen. cybermen want isolate genetic material permits time lords time travel freely can incorporate information own biology. first doctor revealed android, hence title being 6 doctors. holmes made little headway script , withdrew project on 13 october 1982. holmes later use part of storyline in 2 doctors.
