girlguiding sussex central formed in 1979, when county of west sussex re-organised due expansion of girlguiding. created on 1 april 1979 mrs. sylvia smith county commissioner, later become county president.


the county, broadly covers mid sussex area of south east england, consists of 8 divisions: burgess hill, crawley, east grinstead, haywards heath, horsham, parkminster, south down, , worth, , part of girlguiding london , south east england region (laser).


the membership in sussex central 4,000; providing fun, challenges , leadership girls , young women. supported wealth of volunteers run weekly meetings , others give freely of time maintain smooth running of programme. many of these members of our busy trefoil guild.


our county ambassadors, role actively promote guiding, lord dholakia of waltham brooks obe dl, mrs. loder of leonardslee, horsham, chris connors (director cocos hair salons/trustee cocos foundation), henry smith mp (crawley), richard spurgeon (manager @ south lodge). in addition, division ambassadors recruited locally.


each year there special events around county, such our rainbows 25th birthday celebrations @ blackland farm. whilst every 4 years our guides join west sussex scouts , sussex west guides our international camp ws . {

the sussex east silk shows 6 gold martlets (little birds) , 2 gold lines on red diamond. 6 martlets represent 6 rapes or divisions of land in sussex hastings, pevensey, lewes, bramber, chichester , arundal. 2 gold lines represent rivers rother , ouse mark east , west boundaries.
