in 1924, adam s father, charles adams, founded boston bruins. although still student @ time, adams involved team. in 1932 became president of canadian american hockey league farm team, boston tigers. ability recognize talent invaluable growth of bruins player development system.


first tenure president

in 1936, adams became majority owner , team president of bruins when father transferred stock him, art ross, , ralph burkard. while adams president of bruins, team finished first in nhl american division 1937–38 season 1940–41 regular season. won stanley cup in 1939, , 1941. during tenure president adams remained involved in player development process, monitoring progress of players tigers , providence reds of american hockey league.

in 1951 boston garden-arena corporation purchased controlling interest in team. adams remained major stockholder in garden-arena corporation , became chairman in 1951. team s struggled during first few seasons under garden-arena corporation, until adams took on more proactive role in player procurement.


second tenure president

adams again named president of bruins after walter a. brown s death in 1964. upon regaining control of team, adams worked rebuild boston s farm system. fostered strong working relationships powerful junior clubs, including niagara falls flyers , estevan bruins, develop , supply players. adams logged many hours traveling across canada scout players. on next few years, brought in such players bobby orr, wayne cashman, dallas smith, don awrey, don marcotte, derek sanderson , eddie westfall. developed concept of sixth attacker , secured relationship ahl s boston braves due ahl s loss of many players expanding nhl.


on march 31, 1969, succeeded team president son, weston adams, jr. remained on chairman of board until 1973. boston win 2 more stanley cups in 1970, , 1972.


weston elected hockey hall of fame honoured builder in 1972.
