he moved philippines in october 2009 , overall #1 pick of pbl drafted magnolia. because of fall though of pbl, marcio picked smart gilas pilipinas national team. in 2011 commissioner s cup, , due leave of absence barako bull energy boosters in philippine basketball association, smart gilas team whom has been playing for, replacement of barako bull team. playing in 13 games, lassiter averaged 38 minutes per game (#1 in league), 13.5 points per game (#14 in league), 36.9% (24/65) 3-point line (#17 in league), #10 in league points on (176 total) game high of 22, 3.08 assists per game (#16 in league), 1.15 steals per game (#9 in league) , 5.31 rebounds per game. ranked #16 overall in efficiency @ 30.79%

on july 28, 2011, marcio lassiter 1 of first 10 applicants 2011 pba draft. @ time, there had been no announcements regarding extension of smart gilas pilipinas national program. not until august 16, 2011, extension of program revealed. gilas management revealed names of targeted retained, included lassiter. despite word offers set take place next day, nothing done retain of players mentioned, , given ok continue draft. quite unfortunate smart gilas program, many of players waiting offer , still undecided chance pull out of draft. on august 28, 2011, lassiter selected 4th overall in draft powerade tigers. smart gilas teammate jvee casio chosen tigers first overall pick.

the team finished 6 wins , 8 losses , ranked 8th after elimination in 2011–12 philippine cup. teammate gary david averaging 30 points per game during playoffs, had managed beat b-meg llamados, first-seeded team in 2 games. combination of casio, lassiter , david beat yeng guiao-led rain or shine elasto painters in semifinals in 7 games. entered finals heavy underdog tag against chot reyes-mentored talk n text tropang texters. lost finals talk n text, 4-1.
