the recipe developed pharmacist willy drube (1880–1952), since 1908 proprietor of chemist s zum roten fingerhut in schierke, , patented in 1924. administered harz tourists, liqueur became big seller until production discontinued during world war ii. end of war, schierke belonged soviet occupation zone.


after death of willy drube in 1952 , migration of descendants west germany, production continued @ bad lauterberg in lower saxon part of harz mountain range. 1972 onwards, schierker feuerstein produced again @ original place in schierke, east germany volkseigener betrieb ( publicly owned operation , veb), part of larger beverages combine (getränkekombinat) based in magdeburg.


upon german reunification in 1990, schierke , bad lauterberg locations merged within common schierker feuerstein gmbh & co. kg, continued produce liqueur in both facilities.
