no 63 squadron formed light anti-aircraft squadron in 1943, role served in duration of second world war. in 1946, while serving in berlin, squadron s role changed, becoming field squadron. remained in role until 1972, when planned become first raf regiment squadron equipped rapier sam, returning air defence role. 2 unexpected tours in northern ireland meant 1974 before squadron converted. following this, deployed in raf germany until 1992, when, gradual withdrawal of raf mainland europe, squadron disbanded. whilst @ gutersloh, 63 sqn raf regt deployed, part of 5 brigade falkland islands during conflict there. landed @ san carlos on 29 may - 1 june, deployed , remained there until being redeployed stanley after conflict ceased.


63 raf regiment deployed invasion of iraq in 2003 rfs basra air station, providing force protection air base , raf air assets located there.
