the ladd s addition neighborhood contains 4 diamond-shaped rose gardens designed william sargent ladd in 1890s. emanuel mische designed landscaped areas in park in 1909. mische planted roses in diamond gardens giving stained glass effect . park acquired portland parks & recreation in 1981 , features 3,000 roses representing sixty varieties popular in 20th century.
