early life , education

watts s mother, dr. velma gibson watts, associate dean @ wake forest university , father, roland watts, chairman of winston-salem state university s fine arts department. watts attended salem academy in winston-salem, north carolina teenager. graduate of spelman college in atlanta, editor-in-chief of school newspaper , graduated magna cum laude. in 1981, earned master s degree columbia university graduate school of journalism.

career

after graduating columbia, watts returned north carolina , began career general assignment reporter @ wfmy-tv in greensboro, north carolina. later worked @ wnbc, nominated emmy, , wabc-tv in new york anchor of weekly political forum , reporter. in 1987, began working host of attitudes, talk show on lifetime television. next year, took job on newsmagazine inside edition senior correspondent, weekend anchor , producer. king world productions, syndicator of inside edition , oprah winfrey show, asked start own talk show. rolonda aired 4 seasons january 17, 1994 september 1997. watts supervising producer , 1 of owners of show. in 2003 interview soap opera digest, watts said folded show rather lose integrity. audiences saying, well, nice of respectful, s jerry [springer]? had make tough decision, either go route or find else do.
