caernarvonshire created under terms of statute of rhuddlan in 1284 following edward of england s conquest of principality of wales , included cantrefi of: llŷn, arfon, arllechwedd , commote of eifionydd (the northern portion of dunoding).


the county divided ten hundreds based on existing welsh commotes: cymydmaen (anglicised commitmaen), creuddyn, dinllaen, eifionydd (evionydd), cafflogion (gaflogion), llechwedd isaf (...isav), llechwedd uchaf (...uchav), nant conwy (nant-conway), gwyrfai (isgorvai) , uwch gwyrfai (uchgorvai). creuddyn, commote of cantref rhos in kingdom of gwynedd, later came boundary of caernarvonshire.
