archaeological evidence shows area settled in prehistoric times. along sava river, numerous bronze , iron age sites roman finds show continuous occupation. after medieval period area habsburg possession. affected ottoman raids 15th 17th centuries.

krško site of mass grave associated second world war. bunker mass grave (slovene: grobišče v zaklonišču) located on steep right bank of sava river, opposite municipal headquarters, 50 m north of house @ bohoričeva 4, , 100 m south of school playground. contains remains of more 100 croatian civilians murdered , hidden in dynamited bunker.
