the mp 89 contains many features equipped in both subclasses. these innovative features made mp 89 first of kind on metro , allowed ratp continue equip lines modernized stock.


among many features, mp 89 first class of rolling stock include automatic opening , closing of doors. instead of passenger having pull lever or push button open door in order enter or exit train, of doors on platform side open , close automatically. due fact lines using material predominantly underground. feature carried on mf 2000 , mp 05 rolling stock.


the mp 89 equipped audio , visual automatic system (asva) automatically detects positioning of station platform (whether platform on left, or on right side of train). detection allows automatic opening of train doors on appropriate side of platform. system allows operation of automated station announcements. instead of conductor having utilize intercom announce station names, automated system automatically. on curved stations, system vital due gap between train , curved platform. automated messages announce presence of curves.


for example; if mp 89 cc train approaches curved station of barbès – rochechouart on line 4, there automated announcement of station name barbès – rochechouart prior train entering station. train approaches platform , begins slow down, second station name announcement barbès – rochechouart made. in case platform curved, third announcement made in french, english, , third language (usually spanish, german, or italian) alerts passengers please mind gap between train , platform . mp 89 ca not utilize mind gap announcements @ present time because none of platforms on line 14 curved.


another new feature of mp 89 interconnecting gangways in between cars, achieved prototype boa , later mf 88. described further in next section, because type of gangway equipped differs between cc , ca versions. gangways subsequently improved , equipped later mf 2000 , mp 05 stock trains. the mp 89 cc manually controlled driver , circulated on line 1 inception in 1997 until february, 2013, replacing aging mp 59 during course of 1997 , 2000. first train (#01) delivered ratp in 1995 , without articulation. interconnecting gangways not installed until train went passenger service in 1997. 52 6-car trains ordered line 1.


from 2006 2007, experimental program ran on selected train-sets on lcd passenger information system (dilidam). system later adopted new mp 05 automated rolling stock operate on line 1 (from fr:mp 89).


besides provision of driver s cab on cc version of mp 89, key difference between cc , ca stock interconnecting gangways between trains. of cc stock equipped reinforced gangways, consists of solid interior panels. designed due fears curved platforms on line 1 (such bastille), storage of trains within tunnels, cause significant damage rubber gangways. however, trains (#s 02, 08, 09, 13, 18, 51, , 52) have been fitted rubber gangways since 2000, , 6 trains (#s 43, 45, 46, 48, 49, , 50) contain prototype gangways later implemented in mf 01 stock (from fr:mp 89). in 2012, train #12 retrofitted mf 01 type gangways upon transfer of train line 4, , in march, 2014, train #01 retrofitted.


because line 4 curvier line compared line 1, there concerns interconnecting gangways become damaged excessive wear , tear caused curvature of tracks , stations. planned of mp 89 cc trains re-fitted same rubber gangways mp 05. however, after modifying line 4 tracks better suit mp 89, plan cancelled.

the mp 89 ca operates on line 14, , best known being automatic without use of driver or cab. similar metropolis counterparts operating on singapore s north east line & circle line, trains ends offer passengers unblocked view of tracks ahead. have full driving facilities located behind locked cabinet, use in case of emergency or when automatic drive not adequate. 19 6-car sets ordered, further 2 sets delivered extension of line 14 madeleine saint-lazare. of mp 89ca stock on line 14 equipped rubber gangways.
