ardeshir (amir) ghalenoei born on november 21, 1963 in tehran, iran. father, taxi driver, died when amir thirteen years old. began career in late 1970s after passing technical test rah ahan, 1 of oldest clubs in iranian football. played club s youth team 2 years , promoted first team squad in 1981 nasser ebrahimi. had performance there , scored 3 goals during domestic tehran hazfi cup. ghalenoei left club after club s head coach signed shahin.


shahin

when ebrahimi became shahin s coach, ghalenoei moved shahin along him. shahin had several national players such nasrollah abdollahi, mehdi dinvarzadeh, hamid majd teymouri. ebrahimi left club in 1984, succeeded mehrab shahrokhi head coach short period before being replaced nasrollah abdollahi. ghalenoei became club s captain after retirement of dinvarzadeh. during time in shahin, helped team finish runner-up in 2 tehran leagues in 1985 , 1986.


he played last match shahin in 2–0 victory against persepolis both goals on ghalenoei s assists. left team in middle of 1987–88 season , signed qatari club of al-sadd.


al-sadd

he signed one-and-a-half years contract al-sadd in 1987. helped side 2 domestic league title , 1 emir of qatar (fa cup) title. al-sadd won 1988–89 edition of afc champions league in spring of 1989 after defeating al-rasheed in final. ghalenoei had left club , returned iran, , not member of asian champions squad.


esteghlal

he joined esteghlal in july 1989 , played club until retirement. made debut in game against persepolis in quarter final hazfi cup match lost penalty kick.


he won iran league title in first full season (1989–90) @ club in spring 1990. esteghlal won afc champions league on following season (1990–91) after twenty years.


ghalenoei lost of next season (1991–92) due heavy injury. @ season, esteghlal did obtain entry next season (1992–93) of azadegan league , asked play in 3rd division 1 season. meant departure of many players ahmad reza abedzadeh, shahrokh bayani, majid namjoo-motlagh, samad marfavi , reza ahadi ghalenoei remained @ team , chosen club s new captain. esteghlal again rose top level of iranian football in 1994–95 , ranked second on first season competition. ghalenoei scored twice in final game of following season (1995–96) hazfi cup. in last season in esteghlal, started off both in iranian , asian cup winners cup, not sustain performance. head coach, mansour pourheidari – had club asian glory – reigned mid season , nasser hejazi appointed head coach , finished league sixth position. retired @ end of season after missing many matches due injury.


he captain of esteghlal in last 4 years of career, known general , title bestowed on him fans due outstanding skills in leading team during career club.
