battle of ravine

the battle of ravine rivalry game between henderson state university , ouachita baptist university. oldest rivalry of ncaa division ii institutions. first game played on november 8, 1895 (thanksgiving day) , ouachita college beat arkadelphia methodist college, 8–0. next meeting did not occur until 1907 in first sanctioned game of series. reddies defeated ouachita , went on claim arkansas state championship.

the reddies went on win next 6 meetings , game played on thanksgiving day. both teams made game homecoming. series discontinued in 1951 after henderson won, 54–0, , pranks got out of control. series resumed in 1963 reddies, winning 28–13. series continued until 1993 when henderson state moved ncaa division ii gulf south conference. continued again in 1996 when ouachita baptist university moved lone star conference. obu joined gsc in 2000 , 2 schools did not play each other in 2004 or 2005 result of schedule rotation. in total, 2 schools have met 85 times. henderson state leads series, 41–39–6.

considered 1 of finest college marching bands in country, showband of arkansas consists of 150 winds, percussion, , auxiliary members. mission of showband of arkansas represent, foster , promote reddie spirit through musical , visual performance. composed of students academic disciplines, showband of arkansas performs feature band @ high school marching contests, enjoys travel exciting away-games , regularly thrills thousands of reddie spectators @ home football games. open student audition, regardless of major.
