written joseph lidster ‘over-commission’ series two. after series of other story pitches, lidster asked work on 1 of russel t davies’s standby plots concerning spooky 24-hour supermarket center on jack , ianto. described “die hard in supermarket”, set shortly after ianto brought dead (as planned, before storyline shifted owen). have involved getting woman named maggie, supermarket’s last customer, out alive. store have been possessed demonic creature rift manifested late @ night , feds of human life-force. ianto have able save day due being dead.

whilst lidster working on treatment, davies decided reclaim idea use opening episode of series two. however, pressure other projects meant davies able write first scene of episode. after which, handed on chris chibnall incorporated become episode “kiss kiss, bang bang”. davies impressed scene lidster’s treatment involving ianto , maggie on supermarket roof , asked him use in episode based around relationship, dead man helping grieving widow stay alive, became episode “a day in death” owen in place of ianto.

the supermarket concept later considered use episode of sarah jane adventures (see above section) under working title of “supermarket sweep”.
