the club formed on 6 march 1990 polihraftekhnika oleksandriya (ukrainian: Поліграфтехніка Олександрія) @ local polygraph-machine building factory. same year club won regional football competitions of kirovohrad oblast. @ same time in 1990 oleksandriya club shakhtar represented kirovohrad region @ republican amateur level. fc shakhtar oleksandriya club of oleksandriyavuhillya coal mine company. @ first polihraftekhinka leasing shakhtar stadium, while building own stadium olimp.


from 2001–03, pfc oleksandriya played in ukrainian premier league under name of polihraftechnika oleksandriya, had since 1991. after 2003 season club s administration citing fiscal problems left professional football league , idle 1 season.


in 2004 president of polihraftekhnika reestablished club pfc oleksandriya, rejoined professional football league , entered druha liha. @ same time oleksandriya city administration created own football club mfc oleksandriya entered druha liha, however, thereafter city s club withdrew professional competitions.


prior start of 2014–15 ukrainian first league season pfc oleksandriya going through financial difficulties merged ukrahrokom holovkivka competing in ukrainian first league 1 club , renaming fc oleksandriya. merger saved oleksandriya s club bankruptcy. since 2014 merger under new manager serhiy kuzmenko (former chairman of fc ukrahrokom), club claims heritage of soviet miner s team of shakhtar oleksandriya adding year of shakhtar s establishment onto club shield.


in 2015–16 ukrainian premier league season, fc oleksandriya finished 6th place, earning best achievement in ukrainian top flight yet , qualifying third qualifying round of uefa europa league, mark debut in european competition.
