by default, gnome flashback contains 2 panels (one on top, , 1 opposite on bottom) spanning width of screen.


the top panel contains navigation menus labeled applications , places in order, system menu gnome 2.x has been replaced control panel in gnome 3.x. these menus hold links common applications , areas of file system, respectively.


a user menu placed on opposite side of screen, has been available since gnome 2.14 has become more prominent in gnome 3.x, holds access account , system settings options log out, switch user, , shut down computer.


the top panel contains clock/calendar , notification area, can double sort of dock, well. bottom panel commonly empty default (other set of buttons navigate between desktops) due use in navigation between windows (windows minimize bottom panel default).
