research , education

the entrance section includes restaurant, visitors information centre , centre migration studies (cms). cms has attached library , offers, in conjunction university of ulster , queen s university of belfast, postgraduate , undergraduate courses, tailored , shorter courses; of courses concern study of irish migration 1600 present day. specialist research library contains 10,000 volumes, on 50 periodicals, maps, audio-visual material, , collection of primary source documents (the irish emigration database) searchable on computer. centre open visitors during basic office hours, , closed during public holidays.

mellon house birthplace of thomas mellon



the lady of house, amongst other things demonstrating how wax candles home-made


the old world region includes whole streets of original houses, original printing press, bank, old police barracks, old castletown national school, , 2 churches. central region boyhood home of thomas mellon, judge , founder of pittsburgh banking dynasty.


some of two-up, two-down houses in 1 of reconstructed streets in park transported, in entirety, sandy row, off donegall road in belfast, , other buildings have been transported elsewhere in province.

linking old , new world sections of park ship , dockside gallery, includes brig union, full-size replica of immigrant sailing ship.


the historic atmosphere continues in new world area, features recreated old american street tinsmith display , original interior of virginia general store. beyond street, frontier journey begins stop @ 1720s fulton stone house, painstakingly dismantled in lancaster county, pennsylvania, , rebuilt here. other original frontier houses in park include appalachian log house washington county, pennsylvania, 1830 west virginia home of richard mccallister, removed cabell county, , a, opened, brick plantation house built francis rogan in 19th century near nashville, tennessee.
