laurynas ivinskis born in bambaliai, august 15, 1810. in 1841 ivinskis passed teacher s exams, afterwards received kaunas city teacher s certificate. prepared first lithuanian calendar in 1845, due lack of funds calendar not printed in vilnius until year later. calendar metu skajtlus ukiszkas ant metu wieszpaties circulated until lithuanian press ban in 1864. calendars form of almanach, informing readers of incoming fairs , festivities, of basic news on medicine, veterinary, agriculture , housekeeping. 1852 included literary section. out of 22 lithuanian language calendars published between 1847 , 1864, , again in 1877, 3 in cyrillic, while remaining 19 in latin alphabet, used lithuanian language. publishing books , newspapers in lithuanian banned tsarist authorities, ivinskis calendars served role of press large number of lithuanian speakers. during ban ivinskis lectured in secret lithuanian school, established in lubiai.


ivinskis settled in rietavas , lived there between 1874 , 1878. during period wrote book pasauga, considered 1 of first lithuanian books dedicated environment protection theme. apart publishing calendars, ivinskis active translator german , english. started working on polish-lithuanian , russian-lithuanian dictionaries, numerous works in polish language. ivinskis died on august 29, 1881, , buried in kuršėnai.
