after completing snakedance, saward requested writer christopher bailey devise story. initial outline may time commissioned on 24 august 1982 , doctor , companions arriving @ court of byzantium. full scripts commissioned on 16 september 1982 new title man-watch, scripts dropped production unclear reasons. second attempt @ story under title children of seth attempted sixth doctor story, scripts commissioned on 14 july 1983. failed because of bailey s failure devise structure new doctor s new 45 minute episode format , tangible villain doctor face. later adapted children of seth marc platt big finish s lost stories in december 2011. version reverts tardis crew of fifth doctor, tegan , nyssa.

written peter ling & hazel adair, story developed out of plans producer nathan-turner create sequel 1960s soap opera compact, entitled impact. when, after drafting 3 or 4 scripts proposed impact, nathan-turner informed pair plans soap had been cancelled, producer offered them opportunity write doctor form of compensation. scene breakdown (whittled down 6 parts four) commissioned on 12 july 1983, after 3 months of development on scripts, during story restructured 2 45-minute episodes, rejected. plot involves disappearance of various people on earth, leads doctor , peri planet hexagora doctor becomes romantically involved queen zafia trying save insect race of hexagora destruction through plan infiltrate , take on earth. later adapted hexagora paul finch big finish s lost stories in november 2011.
