Battle of Bezzecca Invasion of Trentino (1866)

on july 21 2 austrian columns clashed hunters of alps @ battle of bezzecca. after initial austrian successes, garibaldi s counterattacks forced them retreat bezzecca cimego , condino.


the italian commander had opened road trento, while medici had swept austrian troops valsugana, reaching civezzano, not far trento, on july 25th. kuhn preparing besieged in trento, , had received orders concentrate on defense of south tyrol in case further defeats.


on july 25th , 26th italians attacked near riva del garda, defeated. however, truce signed on july 24th, ended operations. on august 9th italian troops received order leave trentino, treaty of peace between italy , austria forthcoming. garibaldi, square of bezzecca, replied famous: obbedisco ( shall obey ). hostilities ceased armistice of cormons (august 12, 1866).
