hammond raised in chicago suburb of glendale heights, illinois, twin brother jason. hammond became interested in computers @ age, programming video games in qbasic age eight, , building databases age thirteen. student @ glenbard east high school in nearby suburb of lombard, hammond won first place in district-wide science competition computer program designed. in high school, became peace activist, organizing student walkout on day of iraq invasion , starting student newspaper oppose iraq war. high school principal described hammond old beyond years .

hammond attended university of illinois @ chicago on full scholarship. in spring of 2004, during freshman year, exploited security flaw on computer science department s website , went department administrators, offering fix security flaws on site , looking maybe job. inserting backdoor, hammond called before department chair , banned returning sophomore year.

jeremy, along brother jason, has had lifelong interest in music, performing in numerous bands through years. before jeremy s arrests, both actively performing in chicago ska band dirty surgeon insurgency.
