student body

according princeton review undergraduate student body ethnically , socioeconomically diverse. advocate ranks tufts 1 of top 20 gay-friendly campuses. of accepted admission undergraduate class of 2019, 27 percent asian, hispanic, african-american, or 2 or more races. there 145 international students , 6 undocumented or daca students of domestic students admitted, 31 percent self-identified 1 or more races other caucasian, including asian americans, african americans, hispanic americans , native americans. international students make 15 percent of undergraduate student population. students come 50 states , represent 71 countries. top 10 countries represented china, greece, hong kong, india, turkey, singapore, canada, south korea, united kingdom, , vietnam.


student government

there 3 forms of student government @ tufts university: tufts community union (tcu) senate, tcu judiciary , csl (committee on student life). senate chaired student body president , led six-person executive board consisting of vice president, treasurer, historian, parliamentarian, , diversity , community affairs officer.


publications , broadcasting

the tufts daily daily student newspaper, , tufts observer, established in 1895, school s biweekly magazine , oldest publication on campus. zamboni tufts monthly humor , satire magazine. princeton review has named tufts college newspaper 1 of best in country, ranking no. 10. tufts has television station (tutv) has produced , broadcast films, news, soap operas, , comedy sketch pieces. tutv has gone release web series such jules , monty . station went operational in april 1977, curtis hall , consists of 40 student volunteers. curtis hall home tufts own radio station wmfo, streams locally on 91.5 fm. station first aired in 1970 , funded university.


activism

student protest fossil fuel divestment


in 1969, tufts center civil rights activism due controversy surrounding construction of lewis hall. students staged work strike protest racist hiring policies practiced construction company tufts had commissioned build residence hall. in addition writing letters, students sat in ballou , east halls, , collaborated black workers. these demonstrations attracted support major metropolitan areas in northeast. in 1970, tufts adopted new hiring policies subsequently adopted other universities. led creation of training programs minority employees on campus, in addition foundation of africana center.


greek life

there 13 total greek life organizations @ tufts. 25% of student body involved in greek life. 6 national fraternities chapters @ tufts delta tau delta, delta upsilon, theta chi, theta delta chi, zeta beta tau, , zeta psi. in addition, there 4 sororities: alpha omicron pi, alpha phi, chi omega, , kappa alpha theta. there 1 co-ed fraternity, ato of massachusetts, , local fraternity, pi rho omega.
